Reduced fees for 2011-12

Minutes of Vale Badminton Club annual meeting
5.30pm, Sunday, June 19, 2011
Cowbridge Leisure Centre

Attendees:
Committee: Allan Evans (chairman), Glyn Morris (Treasurer), Alison Cook (Fixtures Secretary), Simon Farrington, (Secretary)
Club members: Chris Croad
Apologies: Byron Edwards, Jayne Williams, Andrew Kyle, Martin Dix, Danny Teague

1. Approval of last year’s agm minutes: No matters arising.

2. Treasurer’s report: Glyn outlined a balance sheet showing a healthy surplus of £1,723. This was encouraging following last year’s decision to increase senior fees to £60 a quarter and junior fees to £30 a quarter. Careful management of court bookings, notably around half terms and holiday periods, coupled with shuttle prices remaining more stable than anticipated, has led to this financial strong position. Glyn presented members with a projected balance sheet for the coming 12 months based on a membership reduction of £10 a quarter (£5 juniors) and this still showed a working surplus of around £400. The committee and member present voted to implement this reduction from September 1, 2011 with a proviso that we review the situation in six months time when we would have a clearer indication of membership numbers.
AGREED: Reduction in fees from Sept 1 to £50 a quarter (£25 juniors). Read more…

To the victors, the spoils

As published in the Cowbridge Gem and South Wales Echo.

Vale Badminton Club scored an impressive treble at the Cardiff and District League awards night.

The Club, which plays at Cowbridge Leisure Centre, picked up Men’s Division 1, Division 3 and Division 4B titles, with two of their teams going unbeaten all season. And they also finished runners-up to Penarth A in the Mixed Division 1.

Vale club chairman Allan Evans said: “It has been a terrific season for the club. The Men’s A team retained their title after a fierce battle with rivals Nomads and first pair Chris Rees and Rob John have been an outstanding combination all season.

“The A team has been hit by injuries and tournament commitments but it has been really pleasing to see players step up from the other sides to make a valuable contribution to the A team’s success.

“The B team were unbeaten in Division 3 under the guidance of  Nathan Willcox and even when Nathan was injured for the second half of the season, the strength in depth of the club was sufficient to see us through to the title.

“The C team romped to success in Division 4B barely dropping a rubber all season under the captaincy of Danny Teague.”

Allan added: “What was equally pleasing at the awards night was that one of stalwart players, Glyn Morris, won the league’s prestigious ‘fair play’ award, recognition by other clubs of his sporting nature both on and off the court.”

Vale A: Chris Rees, Joe Morgan, Huw John, Rob John, Barry Garnham, Darius Garnham.

Vale B: Martin Dix, Glyn Morris, Byron Edwards, Nigel Braunton, Matt Obaid, Jack Farrington, Nathan Willcox.

Vale C: Len Field, Rob Calcaterra, Allan Evans, Danny Teague, Simon Farrington, Chris Rowbotham, Dave Skinner, Andrew Kyle.

In the ladies divisions, Penarth and Arches took the Division 1 and 2 titles respectively, while Nomads B won Men’s Division 2 and Reardon Smith A the men’s Division 4B title. In the Mixed leagues, Penarth A, Llantristant A, Llantrisant B, Reardon Smith A and Bridgend won Divisions one to five respectively.
