Men’s B v Nomads

An interesting night for the Vale. We had lost away to Nomads only to have them award us a default win. So there was a lot to prove at the home rematch.
I’m sure they won’t mind if I point out Nomads are an odd team to play.

One of them looks like other people’s badminton bores the life out of him (to be fair it probably does as his version is much quicker…). Another one looked like he’d got lost on the way to a Men’s Health calendar shoot and one of the remaining ones made Nige’ look like sportsman of the year. All of which made for a damn entertaining night!

Rob John has officially left us minions to take his rightful place with the Vale elite. Step in Allan ‘scarface’ Evans to partner Matt. Nathan and Byron looked worried, as Nathan’s leg is still heavily strapped up, but who needs to move when you can hit it that hard? Not Nathan, the Vale 1st pair taking all three with some great play.

Matt ‘one drop too many’ Obaid and the even meaner looking Allan E took a vital game against the 3rds.

Our 2nds crashed and burned against a tricky 2nd pairing but looked well in control in the decider against the Nomad’s 1st pair. It looked like nothing but a spectacular fold could take the win away from them… Enter Glyn ‘origami’ Morris just when the visiting team needed him!

So there it was 4 each with one to go. Nige’ and Glyn destroyed the 3rds in game one. Then switched ends to the dodgy end, where good badders takes a back seat to your knowledge of ‘The Force’. Oh dear, 1-1. Switching ends with Vale up 11-2 it looked easy but, of course, by switching ends the Vale once again found themselves down in the Stevie Wonder corner. The Nomads brought it back to a two point deficit before the Vale knocked it up a gear and brought home the win 21-18.

A great night’s badders and a really good win from a gutsy Vale performance. Well done all!!

I’ve taken great offence to the “one drop too many” nickname as I’d only had the 2 pints before the match this time. If I were a slightly taller 5′ 7″ you wouldn’t dare make such comments…
