Annual CDBL Presentation Dance - 10th May 2008
Heath Hospital Sports and Social Club - 7.30pm - Midnight.

Presentation of trophies 8.30pm.

The club has 12 tickets for anyone wishing to attend.

Congratulations to AlanD and Sally, both of whom have been nominated for the Stuart Dickinson Fair Play Award :) The winner will be announced at the CDBL Presentation Dance on 10th May.

Mixed B Cup final match against Penarth Juniors was a disaster, with a -4 +2 handicap against us we were all aware this was to be a difficult Cup Final.

Penarth Juniors set about giving us a hard time and at the end of the match won 8–1, the consolation 1 win achieved by Chris Croad and Rob Calcaterra.

Never mind there is always next season. I would like to thank all who played for the Mixed B throughout the season and The Grant Williams Cup, and now look forward to normal club nights.

Mixed A faced up to Arches A with the knowledge we had to beat them to be in line for promotion (or not as the case maybe). Arches thought they would gain a clear advantage by playing us in the dimly lit hall but this did not deter us and we went on to beat them 6-3. We can now only cross our fingers and hope for promotion.

Helen S and Glyn started the night off a bit shaky but went on to beat the next two pairings; our super reserves Ali and Byron toyed with the opposition, lulling them into false hope and finally taking one game (maybe the important one!) Sally (with white stick) and Chris ‘the tornado’ won their 3 as per usual (yawn).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed throughout the season in making the Mixed A such a success, special thanks to Sarah for being so good about playing with many men, mixed partners!! Finally a special thanks to Helen S for putting off the opposition with her short shorts (may knit you a bigger pair for next season :-). Thanks guys and gals.

Ladies recorded another 9-0 victory last night against Reardon Smith.

First pairing of Helen ‘Hyper’ Stoddard and Sally ‘Chilled’ Hopkins took all three of their games in two. Helen C and Al took all three - getting some more court time they took one game to three. New pairing of Jayne and Sarah did the same and took one game to three before winning all their games.

Helen C proved that practice does make perfect and managed to complete the scoresheet without any errors. Pity it’s the last one she’ll have to fill in for a while as the season comes to an end!

Won’t mention any ‘after match’ ladies games - suffice to say that only one regular pairing were happy to take on any opposition ….. oh and win :)

Men’s B finished their 2007-2008 Season with a 9–0 win against Arches C!

With three of our normal players unavailable, Jordan and Sam played 2nd pairing, AlanD and SimonF made up a new 3rd pairing, and Rob and Len stepping up to play 1st pair. Everyone settled down from the start and, with the exception of Alan and Simon who went to three against the Arches 1st pair, all games were taken in two.

Great end to the season, shame about our two losses - both to Llantwit Fadre. Never mind there’s always next season!
