Vale Men’s C 3 Ystrad Ramblers 6

Vale Men’s C ended the season on a disappointing note last night after a run of six successive victories. Jordan and Rob John teamed up to win all three rubbers but Simon and Paul were edged out in three tight matches and with no third pair available, there was no room for error!

A big thank you to young Rob for becoming a regular member of the Cs towards the end of the season and a big thank you to Paul who ensured we fulfilled our last remaining two fixtures.
It has been a frustrating couple of weeks, to put it mildly.

Ladies v Cardiff

As no official word-smith has come forward to report on Monday’s Ladies match it’s going to be brief :)

Ladies won 5-4.

Vale C win again!

The C’s are at it again… running up an impressive 6-3 away victory at Llantwit Fadre. What, only 6-3? Well, we did only have two pairs! With crock Matt in plaster, Danny T nursing tennis elbow, young Rob John suffering from blisters (poor luv), and Dan Thomas money grabbing at Farthings, it was left to Jordan and Sam, and Simon pairing with season debutant Paul Dobson to lead the troops to success.

SF and Dobbo made a bit of a meal of it, twice being taken to three but the ‘old and bald boys’ came good. One last push next Tuesday, and it looks like getting six players to the starting line up will be a tall order with Danny on holiday and Sam on a promise in London. Where’s the dedication?

Mixed A v Arches Mixed B

Vale won 8-1 at home last night against a decent Arches side.

Sally, absent due to the party season, was replaced by Sarah who played with Chris. Helen S - surprisingly lucid considering yesterday’s Grand Slam win ;) - and Glyn played 2nd pair and coming in from the cold wasteland after being dropped last game Alison and Byron played 3rd… how the fans applauded [Cough - Ed.]

Sadly it was the aforementioned 3rds who managed to blot the Vale copybook by dropping their last game of the night against the Arches 1st pair.

Only 2 more games for the Mixed A before they see if they’ve done enough to get promotion. Fingers crossed :)

Mat - an update

Mat says,

“…had an op week last Monday under GA. Stitches now out but have another 6 weeks probably in plaster using crutches. On the positive side I am now a world expert at balancing while taking a pee and have forearms like Popeye.

No driving for XX weeks when cast is off and then will need physio and then slow process of strengthening my ankle before I can hold a racquet again. So hopefully will be back on court this year - with any luck in autumn. Seems ages.

Take my advice (and anyone else over 30) stretch those ankles well before playing!”

Mea Culpa

Turns out I shouldn’t have played in the Mixed B recently as I’d already played 3 times for Mixed A. My fault, I’d forgotten a game with Sal last November. Dang! I’d imagine we will have to forfeit the game Mixed B won last Tuesday. Apologies to Danny, sackcloth and ashes will be worn.

Men’s A v Holm View B

Another sweet win for Men’s A on Sunday against Holm View with only one rubber being dropped.

Vale 8 Holm View 1

Thanks to James for playing instead of Kinsey in what looks to be his new role for the rest of the season :)

[Short post, but nothing exciting happened - Ed]

Vale Ladies 6 Penarth Juniors 3

The average age at the Leisure Centre dropped drastically tonight when the Penarth Juniors turned up to play the ladies!

The regular first pairing of Helen S and Sal were stunned when they lost to the Penarth Juniors first pair - but they did manage to take their two other games. The second regular pair of Sarah and Suz didn’t fair much better and only managed to win one game.

The stars of the night were the new pairing of Jordan and Jayne who showed the regular pairings a thing or two by winning all three games. Jayne has sussed that playing with a junior makes it much easier and involves less running!!

Helen C was kept away not only from the match but also from the Leisure Centre so there were no ‘incidents’ to report.

Well done girls! :)

Men’s C v Llantwit Fadre

Vale C enjoyed a further emphatic 9-0 victory last Sunday, this time over an inexperienced Llantwit Fadre team. Dan Thomas paired up with Rob while Jordan ans Sam continued their winning ways. Simon and Danny made up the successful third game as Vale C won all rubbers two straight.
