Update: Latest results in from Rob Short

With the Vale Mixed B pairings decimated with players away, in another match or injured, our reserve pairings of Howard and Chris, Rob and Alison along with regular pairing of Jack and Jayne were called upon to help with our Grant Williams Cup Match against Reardon Smith A.

With a handicap of +2 in our favour the team set about to defend the honour of Vale Badminton Club! This they achieved with a 5–4 victory, taking Vale Mixed B through to the next round, the games were close with very close score lines. Shame about the venue (Jubilee Hall) the courts were very slippery and covered in dust which made for some excellent DANCING ON ICE contenders.

Thanks once again to Howard, Chris, Rob and Alison for stepping in for missing players.

Vale C 9 Star B 0

What looked and sounded like a horrible Achilles injury to Matt Obaid put a dampener on probably Vale C’s best result of the season. Star fielded a stronger team than in the home game which they won 5-4 which gives an indication just how well Jordan and Sam played at one string, Matt and Rob John played at two and Simon and Danny played at three.

Thanks to Byron and Len for taking Matt to hospital. Hopefully the injury will not be as bad as we fear.

Penarth have cancelled tonight’s match against Mixed A so we have the four courts for a club night.

Vale C made it three wins on the trot last night with an 8-1 success over Reardon Smith.

Dan Thomas made a welcome return to the side and paired up with Matt to score three straight-set victories and Jordan and Sam are becoming difficult to beat, taking on the responsibility of first pairing.

Simon and Danny dropped a rubber in a tight match against Reardon’s best pairing, but overall it was another quick clinical performance from the C team.

The winning streak came to an end last night when the Vale Mixed A lost 6-3 to Llantrisant Mixed B.

The team fought hard taking quite a few games to the wire. Helen & Glyn put up a fantastic fight, as well as Sarah & James, and even myself and Chris had to pull our finger out.

Anyway onwards and upwards bring on the next game!

The Farrington twins made a surprise joint appearance as Vale Mixed B slammed a team from Cardiff (Reardon Smith I think) 9-0.

Jack, the younger twin by 34 years (it was a protracted and difficult birth), partnered Jayne to success while the elder twin watched in awe as his teenage-looking partner Princess Helen stung like a butterfly and floated like a bee (or something similar) to control the net. Howard and Cath were a force of nature as number one pairing. All in all it was a night of pure poetry and prose.

Jayne was seen taking Jack in hand, particularly when his shorts split… pictures follow later.
