Courts are available over Xmas

UPDATE: Helen C and the leisure centre staff have asked if it’s ok if we play 4-6pm this Sunday as the centre is only opening for us, no one else using the facilities. Then the staff could finish early – as it’s their last shift before Xmas.

So see you all there at 4pm.

********************************

We have courts as normal this Sunday 23rd and 1 court booked for Sunday 30th with the probability that more will be available should the need arise.

Please note the court booked for 30th is 3pm-5pm as the leisure is closing early.

So if anybody feels the need to shed a few pounds after pigging out on turkey, chocolates, mince pies and gallons of cheap booze there’s no excuse not to play.

Merry Xmas - Bah humbug

Mixed A v Holm View

Mixed A finished with a bang in 2007 with a 8 -1 victory over Holm View. It was a bit of a wobbly start with all dropping their first game but true to form we all went on to win our first rubbers.

Helen (I’m running late) played magnificently with fab Glyn (I’m not playing mixed!) took all three closely contended games. Sarah (we could have taken 3 but we knew we had won!) and yet another amazing reserve in the form of James took two games, with the ringers Sally and Chris taking 3 games.

The highlight for me was going 17 -0 up in our 2nd game against the 2nd’s on my serve, with Chris barely having to hit the shuttle (makes a change). Anyway thanks to all for turning up and playing some fantastic badminton.

I can’t go without saying Len & Kinsey you need to pull your socks up!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.

Sal :)

Pulling rabbits out of hats

Mixed B Played their return game against David Lloyd last night hoping for a repeat of the away leg, however this was going to prove a little difficult considering Vale could only field two pairings!

With Kat and Jack away with illness and no super subs available (Helen Creed), the two pairs consisted of AlanD partnered with Emma and the usual pairing of Danny and Jayne.

Alan and Emma went off with a flying start beating the first pairing, but with Danny and Jayne losing against the second pairing, the match looked not to be going our way. However with a little luck and hard play we eventually pulled a 5-4 victory out of the bag. [Fantastic result! - Ed]

Ladies night

Thanks to Helen (S) for the pics of the Ladies night out. I especially like the pic of the conjurer pulling a Chrysanthemum out of his trousers and Suz obliging him with her ‘fingers of measuring’.

Revenge is sweet

After defeat at the hands of the Holm View Mixed B team in the cup match a few weeks ago it was time for Mixed A’s revenge in the league encounter on Tuesday.

With half of the ‘A’ team missing (someone teach Sal how to use a diary!) it was left to the subs to step up to the plate. Without a recognized first team pair in action on the night a 7-2 victory was very sweet.

Thanks to Emma, James and Glyn for standing in for Sal, Kinsey and Len.

Perhaps we should consider dropping different members of the team on a regular basis - keep them on their toes!!!

Vale Men’s B v Cardiff B

After two late withdrawals replacements were rounded up and the B team headed off to Eastern Leisure Centre.

Three wins for Rob & Nigel, two for Steve & James and two for Howard & Alan - although after all three of their games went to 3, the emergency services were standing by on red alert.

Many thanks to Nigel and James for stepping in at short notice.

Final score 7-2.

Men’s A v Llantrisant B

A nice win for the Vale men away at Llantrisant on Friday night. Thanks again to James who became super-sub for the night replacing Jack who was home with a man cold!

Final score-7-2

Another winning run ends!

The ladies winning streak came to an end last night with a 6-3 defeat to PD. Despite the appearance of the clubs ’supersub’ (thanks Helen C) they were unable to record a win. Helen C (standing in for an unwell Helen S) and Sal only managed to take the one game with the flourishing partnership of Sarah and Suzanne taking 2! Jayne & Kath were unlucky not to beat their 3rd pair - taking them to three games and losing the third 25-23. It had the desired effect and killed off the opposition 3rd pair thus making the task of beating them much easier for our other two pairs.

‘Shot of the night’ has to go to Helen C - call it a ’sling’, call it a ’scoop’, call it what you like but Helen didn’t - much to the disgust of the opposition and other Vale club members sitting on the sidelines!!!

In the pub by just after 10pm - there is something positive about this new scoring system!

Return against PD is next week - watch this space……..!
