Extra choice for the captains

Vale Mixed B continues the Vale Badminton Clubs run of first match win’s, with an 8-1 away win against Reardon Smith B. Vale’s first pairing of Jack and Emma, and second pairing of AlanD and Kat took three games each with our third pairing of Danny Teague (who has agreed to be Mixed B Captain) and Jayne taking two games. All games were finished by 21:55, but it could have been earlier had we not gone to three in a few of the games.

An interesting turn of events happened as we were all about to leave, their Mixed B captain (who is a new member at Reardon Smith) came running up to us and asked for the £1.50 each towards shuttles, as you can imagine we were all in shock, until another member of Reardon Smith explained to their mixed B Captain “You only collect from our own players”. Suitably embarrassed she apologised and we invited her to the Vale to collect fees for our Club. Unfortunately (or fortunately) she declined…

Vale C men got off to a flying start in Division 4 last night with a 7-2 away win at David Lloyd Sports Centre.

And if Vale think they have a ringer in at one, then David Lloyd are only one step behind, as Welsh National senior singles champion Raj Popat heads up their team!

Fortunately the rest of his team were not such high flyers and Vale C team pairings of Matthew and Jordan at one, Simon and Dan at two and Sam and Danny at three, comfortably beat their two and three strings, while Dan and Simon went one better and edged out the Welsh champion, yes, let me just say that again, the Welsh champion, in a tight three games. They did play on his partner just a little bit, No, a lot!

The three new pairings of Jack and Chris, Byron and Kinsey and Alan and Glyn got the Men’s A season off to a good start with a win over Arches B. Probably Chris and Jack could have been finished by 7 o’clock if the other pairings hadn’t dragged their heels by taking some of their games to three :)

It was almost a clean slate - but Alan and Glyn managed to blot it by dropping one of their games. Final score 8-1 to Vale.

ps. Thanks to Alison and Len for cheerleading from the sidelines. Next time bring your pom poms.
